Robust Structural Engineering of Industrial PEB Buildings

For an industrial PEB engineering project, we begin with the geometry of the structure and the loads that would be acting on the structure. We gather information such as the spans of the buildings, their length, their heights, bay sizes, roof slopes, positions of columns, number of openings, and other service requirements so that the correct structural specifications of the building can be determined.

Once structural design is done, we can go ahead and determine the loads that would act on the structure. The loads on the structure could be dead load, imposed load on the roof, wind load, or earthquake-related load if necessary. The exact load combinations depend on where the project is located, what the building would be used for, and what design codes should be applied.

The principal frame of the building takes loads onto its columns and rafters and transfers them to the foundations. In many cases, rafters and columns of the building are made from tapered steel sections built up, thus allowing for the change in thickness and depth of the element along its length, depending on the distribution of forces acting on it, which is more efficient to use steel than employing sections of equal size.
